GIS for Sustainable Education
According to the National Education Policy 2020, Agricultural education with allied disciplines will be revived. As per the policy “Both capacity and quality of agriculture and allied disciplines must be improved in order to increase agricultural productivity through better skilled graduates and technicians, innovative research, and market-based extension linked to technologies and practices.”
The value and benefits of using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology in the agriculture sector are huge. GIS is being applied in areas like biomass and yield estimation, vegetation health and drought stress monitoring, assessment of crop phenological development, cropland mapping, mapping of disturbances and land use land cover changes in addition to precision agriculture and irrigation management.
As agriculture is crucial to economic growth, it is important that the young generation is skilled with the right technology.Academia has an important role to play here; with the appropriate infrastructure boosting hands-on training and inclusion of latest technology GIS, educators can disseminate their knowledge from basic agricultural skills to the best practices. Educators can lead the way with the inclusion of spatial thinking, technology, and geography-based learning in transformative ways for learning. Esri India collaborates with various agricultural institutions for quality education and capacity building in the field of geospatial technology.
Attend this webinar on GIS for Sustainable Agriculture, especially designed for agriculture universities to understand how GIS technology can help advance the agriculture ecosystem.
The webinar will cover the usage of GIS particularly in below:
- Soil and Crop mapping and prediction
- Smart farming – IoT in agriculture
- Find Crop gaps, Crop count, Crop health analysis using Drone and multispectral data
- Soil type classification using Hyperspectral data
- Tree count and tree health analysis using deep learning and Raster analysis
